Market Street – Here we go again with Tree-Felling

An article in the San Francisco Chronicle today detailed a threat to the long lines of London Plane Trees on either side of Market Street.  (Click here for that article.)

This is the habitat of the Western Tiger Swallowtail butterfly; indeed, the butterfly here emerged in just such a tree on Market Street.

Liam O’Brien, who follows San Francisco’s butterflies, is leading an effort to save this habitat. Fortunately, on this occasion there’s more time; the work isn’t planned until 2016. But this it the time to re-plan the street to preserve the trees, not consider them as disposable obstacles.
